Reviving Community Through Making Disciples
Who We Are
Living Hope Community Church Durham is a Christ-centered, multi-cultural community in Durham, committed to following Jesus and participating in God’s renewing work in our world and neighborhoods.
We are a growing church family shaped by Scripture, prayer, and the Holy Spirit, seeking to live out the gospel in everyday life.
We gather to worship, pray, learn from Scripture, and walk together as disciples of Jesus not just on Sundays, but throughout the week in our homes, workplaces, and neighborhoods.
What We Believe
We believe:
God
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is the Creator of all things and is holy, loving, and faithful.
Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, fully God and fully man. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, and rose again. Through Him, we have forgiveness and new life.
The Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit is present and active today, drawing people to Christ, transforming hearts, and empowering believers to live out their faith.
The Bible
We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God. It is true, trustworthy, and our final authority for faith and life.
Salvation
We believe salvation is a gift of grace through faith in Jesus Christ. We are not saved by our works, but by God’s mercy. Through Christ, we are forgiven, made new, and invited into a restored relationship with God.
The Church
We believe the Church is the body of Christ, called to worship God, grow in faith, and serve others. We are a community shaped by love, grace, and truth.
Baptism and the Lord’s Supper
We believe baptism and the Lord’s Supper are important practices given by Jesus.
- Baptism is a sign of new life in Christ and a public declaration of faith in Jesus Christ
- The Lord’s Supper is a time to remember Christ’s sacrifice and be renewed in Him
Our Life Together
While we come from different backgrounds, we are united by the gospel and a shared desire to grow in faith, obedience, and love. These convictions shape how we worship, care for one another, and welcome those who are new to faith.
We are part of the Christian Reformed Church in North America. To learn more about our shared beliefs, you can read the CRCNA Statement of Faith here:
Together, we seek to love, grow, teach, and serve as we follow Jesus in our community.
Our Vision
What God is calling us toward as a church:
- Foster belonging and transformation
- Make disciples who love God and others
- Witness faithfully in a changing world
Our vision is to revive community through making disciples. We believe God calls the Church to be a place of belonging, transformation, and faithful witness in the midst of a changing world.
At Living Hope, discipleship is not a program but a way of life, learning to love God, love others, and walk faithfully with Jesus together.
How We Live This Out
We live out our calling through these practices:
- Love – Welcoming others with Christ-like compassion and hospitality (John 13:34-35 ESV)
- Grow – Maturing in faith through Scripture, prayer, and community (2 Peter 3:18 ESV)
- Teach – Forming disciples through biblical teaching and shared learning (Matthew 28: 20 ESV)
- Serve – Joining God’s work in our neighborhoods and across cultures (Galatians 5:13 ESV)
We are a church made up of people from many cultures and generations, learning together what it means to follow Jesus faithfully in today’s world.
